Baseball America's Geoff Pontes breaks down the top Japanese players preparing to make the jump to MLB, headlined by Hanshin Tigers third baseman Teruaki Sato following his Triple Crown season. Pontes explains how Sato's elite bat speed compares to Giancarlo Stanton, why he could be a more complete hitter than Munetaka Murakami and what kind of contract he could command from MLB teams. He also examines potential fits with the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, compares Japanese pitchers Hiromi Itoh and Kaima Taira and explains why Taira's arsenal could translate particularly well to the majors. Plus, Pontes discusses how the looming MLB lockout could accelerate the posting process and impact the free-agent market.
