Van Mathias was elated after his 50 Breast silver medal performance in Irvine tonight, and with good reason. Before his prelims swim, Mathias suffered a back spasm, saying he wasn't able to walk in the early afternoon after the prelims. Luckily, Mathias and USA Swimming's medical team were able to manage the problem and get Mathias in racing shape. In the final of the 50 Breaststroke tonight, the IU Hoosier touched in 26.42, tying with South Africa's Michael Houlie and just behind Australia's Sam Williamson (26.36).
