Three swings. Ten days. All of them came in big spots.
October 3, NLDS Game 1. The Brewers trail the Padres 2-0. Robbie Ray throws Jackson Chourio a first-pitch slider, and he hits it 420 feet at 113.3 mph to tie the game. It’s the hardest-hit home run of his career and his fifth in the postseason, the most in Brewers history.
October 4, NLDS Game 2. Bottom of the ninth, the Brewers down 3-2, bases loaded, two outs. Mason Miller is on the mound with 38 saves in 41 chances, and Chourio had never gotten a hit off him. On a 2-2 count, Miller throws a 101.3 mph fastball. Chourio lines it into center at 109.5 mph, two runs score, and the Brewers walk off. “I told myself I was never going to make the last out.”
October 14, NLCS Game 3. At Dodger Stadium, Blake Snell throws a 97.6 mph fastball as the first pitch of the night, and Chourio sends it 391 feet into the right-center field bleachers. It was one year to the day after he did the same thing to Yoshinobu Yamamoto. That made six postseason homers, the most ever by a player before his 23rd birthday.
He’s 22, and he’s leading off in the World Series.
