The Golden State Valkyries bounced back in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals, beating the Atlanta Dream 67-62 at State Farm Arena to even the series at 2-2. The win sends the Finals back to the Bay Area for Game 5 on Monday at Chase Center, essentially turning the series into a best of three for the title.
Head Coach Natalie Nakase changed her starting lineup for the first time in the playoffs, turning to Tiffany Hayes and Kaila Charles. Golden State started 1 for 11 before getting more touches in the paint and clamping down defensively, forcing seven Atlanta turnovers in the first quarter that turned into nine points. Kiah Stokes made two layups and grabbed six rebounds, Charles added five first quarter points, and the Valkyries led by as many as 16, holding a 42 26 lead at halftime.
Gabby Williams led the way with 17 points, Veronica Burton added 13 points and five assists with big shots, including a contested three with 4:23 to play, and Cecilia Zandalasini scored 10 off the bench with three first half steals. Atlanta cut the lead to six twice, but the Valkyries won the turnover battle 17-9, scored 38 points in the paint, a series high, and held the Dream to 18 of 54 shooting.
