The Cincinnati Bengals head into their Week 6 bye at 3-2, with a much-needed victory behind them and plenty to clean up before the second stretch of the season. Sunday's 31-24 win over the Miami Dolphins snapped a two-game losing streak, but it wasn't exactly the complete performance Cincinnati wanted heading into its week off.

The biggest positive remains quarterback Joe Burrow. He threw four touchdown passes against Miami, completing 23 of 32 attempts for 190 yards. Ja'Marr Chase, back after clearing concussion protocol, caught six passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. Getting Chase back into the lineup was significant, especially with Tee Higgins also having dealt with injuries recently. If Cincinnati can keep its top receiving options healthy, the passing game has the potential to carry the offense through a difficult schedule.
Still, the Bengals have work to do. Burrow wasn't satisfied with the team's execution against Miami, specifically pointing to two red-zone fumbles and costly personal fouls. Those mistakes kept the Dolphins in a game Cincinnati had an opportunity to control. Against stronger opponents, turnovers and penalties can quickly turn a manageable afternoon into a damaging loss.
Defensively, the picture is less settled. The Bengals showed promise early, but their run defense and secondary have been inconsistent. Jordan Battle's two interceptions against Miami were encouraging, while the defense as a whole needs to become more dependable. Cincinnati also needs better discipline on special teams and more consistency from its ground game, which has struggled to generate explosive runs.
The bye arrives at a useful time for a banged-up roster. Safety Kyle Dugger remains week-to-week, and tight end Tanner Hudson is being evaluated for a pectoral injury. The team also placed linebacker Swayze Bozeman on injured reserve with a broken forearm.
The next challenge is substantial: Cincinnati visits the Baltimore Ravens on October 25. Baltimore enters the break at 4-1, making the divisional matchup an opportunity for the Bengals to improve their standing in the AFC North.
The bottom line: Cincinnati is in a reasonable position at 3-2, but the record doesn't tell the whole story. Burrow and his receivers provide plenty of offensive firepower, and the Miami win restores some momentum. However, improved protection, a more productive running game, fewer self-inflicted mistakes and steadier defensive play are essential if the Bengals want to contend seriously. The bye offers time to heal and reset. How they perform against Baltimore should provide a much clearer indication of whether this team can turn its early promise into a sustained playoff push.
