How many tournaments is too many? It is one of the questions golf parents ask most, and junior golf coach Jeff Isler has a rule that has nothing to do with a number.
In this clip from episode 66 of The Golf Parent, Jeff explains why he would rather see a junior play 4 tournaments in a row and then take 3 weeks off than compete once a week all year. He breaks down the compete, evaluate, rest cycle, why he treats every tournament as a pre-test rather than a result, and how he builds a practice plan backwards from the tournament date.
The sign he tells parents to watch for is not a score. It is the moment your kid says "another tournament?"
Jeff founded Jeff Isler Golf in Southlake, Texas in 2005 and is a Golf Digest Best Teacher in Texas for 2026-27.
