Cooper Lutkenhaus ran 1:42.08 to win the Oslo Bislett Games 800m on Wednesday — a world-leading time, a personal best, and a one-hundredth-of-a-second victory over reigning World and Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
He dove for the line. Wanyonyi dove with him. The photo finish gave it to Cooper by 0.01.
He's 17 years old. He's 6-for-6 in 800m finals as a professional. He has now defeated the reigning Olympic silver medalist (Marco Arop, Stockholm) and the reigning Olympic and World champion (Wanyonyi, Oslo) in back-to-back Diamond League starts.
