Seattle Won Their First World Series. It’s Just Not the Mariners.

The Milwaukee Brewers just won the first World Series in franchise history. But that franchise started in Seattle.

In 1969, the Seattle Pilots played one season at Sick’s Stadium, a minor league park where the toilets stopped flushing once the crowd got big. They went 64-98, drew 677,944 fans, and went bankrupt. About a week before Opening Day in 1970, a bankruptcy referee approved the sale to Bud Selig, and the team’s equipment trucks sat in Provo, Utah, waiting to find out which way to drive.

Then Seattle sued baseball. The city, the state and King County went after the American League for $32 million, and two days into the trial, the league voted to give Seattle a new team. That team became the Mariners.

In this video we cover the one season of the Pilots, how they ended up in Milwaukee, how Seattle got the Mariners, and 57 seasons of Brewers history, from Robin Yount and the 1982 Wallbangers to the 2026 title.
