Seattle traded DK Metcalf in March 2025. On November 23rd in Nashville, in his 11th game of the season, Jaxon Smith-Njigba broke Metcalf’s franchise record for receiving yards in a season.
He finished with 1,793, the most in the NFL and the eighth most in league history. He also had 119 catches, another franchise record, 10 touchdowns and nine 100-yard games, more than anyone in the league. Seattle went 14-3, the best record in franchise history.
He won Offensive Player of the Year, the first Seahawk to win it since Shaun Alexander in 2005, and he was a unanimous first-team All-Pro.
Here’s the part people miss. In 2024, playing behind Metcalf and Lockett, he led the NFL in receiving yards from the slot. In 2025 Seattle moved him outside, and per Next Gen Stats he led the NFL with 1,378 yards lined up wide. He led the league from two different spots in back-to-back years.
He accounted for 44% of Seattle’s receiving yards, the highest share of any player in football. He led the team in receiving yards in 16 of 17 games, the most ever in a regular season. And Seattle had signed Cooper Kupp. Didn’t matter.
With Sam Darnold on play-action, the two connected 31 times for 723 yards and six touchdowns. They’re the only QB-receiver duo to top 700 play-action yards in the Next Gen Stats era.
