Japeth Aguilar — after nearly 20 years of service to Gilas Pilipinas — bows out on the biggest possible stage. In a packed Blue Eagle Gym, the 38-year-old received a framed jersey in front of family and fans before his final game, a 90–76 win over Guam national basketball team that capped a perfect sweep of Window 1 of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers. From humble beginnings at Ateneo de Manila University and a stint in the US NCAA, Aguilar grew into a cornerstone of the national team — helping Gilas break decades-long droughts and leading them to multiple World Cups, an Asia Cup silver, and a long-awaited Asian Games gold. As he takes his final bow, a new generation of big men steps up to carry the legacy.
