GWGary Woodland

After 6 years, 9 months and 13 days, Gary Woodland is a PGA TOUR winner once again.

In 2023, Woodland had brain surgery to remove a lesion pressing on his brain. Earlier this year, he revealed he was diagnosed with PTSD about a year ago. And today, Woodland won the Texas Children's Houston Open for his first win since the 2019 U.S. Open.

What a journey.

The PGA TOUR heads to the Lone Star State for a two-week Texas swing, beginning with the Texas Children’s Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course. Min Woo Lee returns to defend his maiden PGA TOUR title, looking to become the first back-to-back winner in Houston in two decades. Awaiting him is a strong chasing pack, including Brooks Koepka who returns to a course he helped design, carrying momentum from a solid Florida swing. A group of in-form players including Chris Gotterup, Jake Knapp, Nico Echavarria and Ryan Gerard adds depth, with each sitting inside the top 20 of the FedExCup standings. There’s also plenty on the line with The Masters fast approaching at Augusta National. A number of notable names including Rickie Fowler, Tom Kim, Sahith Theegala, Tony Finau and Will Zalatoris are still not yet qualified. The path for them is simple, win a PGA TOUR event between now and The Masters or move inside the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking by the conclusion of the Valero Texas Open. That makes this a pivotal week in Houston, with major championship dreams hanging in the balance.
