In this video, I share my full review of the Bridgestone VS Red Prototype golf ball, tested as part of an official My Golf Spy and Bridgestone testing agreement.
I am currently a 13.5 handicap, down from an 8.5 over the past two years — mostly due to struggles off the tee with my driver. My ball priorities are distance and control off the driver, combined with high spin and feel on scoring shots and around the greens. I put the VS Red Prototype through an extensive testing process to see if it could check those boxes.
Testing included:
Off-season TrackMan simulator sessions including full rounds, driver and iron testing, and short-game work using the Stack Wedge system
Par-3 simulator rounds focusing on shots 90 yards and in — where I shot my lowest ever score of 4-under, competing against our assistant pro (a plus handicap)
Three full on-course rounds beginning April 1st, with direct head-to-head comparisons against the Titleist Pro V1 and Callaway Chrome Tour
Key findings:
At 80 yards with a 51-degree wedge, the VS Red Prototype was 2.5 yards more accurate in distance control than the Pro V1, with +250 RPM of additional spin.
At 30 yards with a 56-degree wedge, distance control was equal with approximately 200 RPM less spin.
Lower spin on 8-iron shots compared to Pro V1
Excellent feel across all clubs — driver, irons, wedges, and putter
Cover durability was superior to the Chrome Tour, TP5X, and Pro V1 over three rounds.
The packaging alone was worth the unboxing. Thank you My Golf Spy and Bridgestone for the opportunity to test this ball!
