Athletics for the Outback in Weipa | Bringing Track & Field to Local Schools

Rio Tinto Athletics for the Outback headed to Weipa, visiting three schools across the region and giving local students a taste of track and field through Run Jump Throw sessions.

The program introduced kids to the basics of athletics while giving them the opportunity to try activities and experiences they may not otherwise have access to locally.

Along the way, students learned new skills, met people from outside their region and experienced the excitement of attempting something new and discovering they could do it.

For those delivering the program, the experience was equally rewarding, with the energy and enthusiasm of the kids proving just as inspiring.

And if the visit can inspire even one or two young people to become a better athlete, a better person or simply take something positive forward in life, then it has done its job.
