Wyndham Clark won the BMW Championship at Bellerive, his third win of the year, and once again did it as the player the crowd wanted to lose. At the U.S. Open they pulled for Scheffler. At the BMW they pulled for Rory McIlroy. Both times Clark held the lead, and both times the gallery wanted someone else.
A friend told him afterward, “Darth Vader had more fun.” Clark agreed. He’s stopped fighting the villain role and started using it, saying he’s been the underdog in all of his wins. On Sunday he lost a five-shot lead, then birdied the last three holes to win by three.
