S3 Ep 26 “Results” The Kendrick Johnson Investigation – Investigative True Crime Series
Keep the session moving with another watch from the same channel.
Jason Pollock the director of the “documentary” “Finding Kendrick Johnson” was one of my favorite investigative journalists, and made a film called “Stranger Fruit” which was amazing. This all was thrown into question, when I saw his film “Finding Kendrick Johnson” a case I have personally spent thousands of hours investigating.
Some of the documentary was good, he looked at the racism in Valdosta, Georgia and in other parts of the South. I appreciated his information about the FBI and it’s sorted past.
What I struggle with is his one sided poor analysis of the case overall. I’m guessing this is because the Johnson’s own 50% of the film. I believe Pollock shows a significant bias because of this.
He chooses to point a strong finger at the Bell Brother’s for possibly being involved in the death of Kendrick Johnson. What he fails to mention is that they have strong alibis which stand up to the evidence and scrutiny. Pollock himself even puts up a surveillance footage graphic that clearly shows that Brian Bell was not only nowhere near KJ when he’s last seen on the footage, but it shows Brian entering his next block period and then he is marked as “present” in class.
The other brother Branden is not even on campus and this is proved through witnesses, bus log, cell phone pings, hotel check in, and wrestling weigh in log. The tournament was in Macon, GA, at least a 2 hour drive from Valdosta. It took me 2 hour and 15 minutes with no traffic.
Jason Pollock literally ignore their alibis and only looks at it from a single side. I think one of the most important things you can do in journalism is ask those involved and invite the opposing side to comment and provide evidence.
The sad thing about Pollock’s “investigating” is that there was none done in my opinion. With the Johnson’s owning 50% of the film, there was no way he could have produced an unbiased product.
