Jeremy Wariner Reflects On Career, Coaching U.S. 4x400m, Talks Global State Of 400m

Chris Chavez and Kyle Merber are coming at you live from Budapest with Team USA relay coach and 400m legend Jeremy Wariner. The Olympic and world champion looks back on his legendary career, from winning Olympic gold at just 20 years old to becoming one of the most dominant 400m runners of his generation.

Jeremy gets into his race strategy, the brutal workouts that told him he was ready to run fast, racing alongside LaShawn Merritt, and why he never really needed to train for the 200m despite making U.S. Championship finals. He also breaks down how the 400m has evolved, whether modern spikes and technology would have made him faster, and what he thinks of the current crop of 400m stars, including Quincy Wilson and Rai Benjamin.

Now a high school coach and member of Team USA’s relay staff, Jeremy also shares what he has learned from his longtime coach Clyde Hart, how he approaches coaching young athletes, and what it’s like managing rivalries and egos when athletes have to put everything aside to get the stick around.

Plus, we get his thoughts on the growing mixed relays, Team USA’s battle with Botswana heading toward the 2028 Olympics, his Olympic medals and collection of glasses and uniforms, and whether he could still throw down a 400m if Team USA desperately needed him in 2028.
