HERE'S WHY Japan is the Most DISCIPLINED Team in Volleyball History. Japan’s women’s national volleyball team has built a reputation for something that goes far beyond powerful attacks and spectacular rallies — discipline. Every movement has a purpose, every player knows her responsibility, and even when the pressure becomes overwhelming, Japan continues to play with incredible composure, precision, and determination.

That mentality was on full display in one of the most dramatic matches of the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League.

Facing Canada in Quebec City, Japan survived an unbelievable five-set battle and secured a 3-2 victory, winning 29-27, 25-20, 23-25, 28-30, 15-12. Canada pushed Japan to the absolute limit, but Japan refused to lose control when the match entered its most difficult moments.

The first set already showed the mentality of this Japanese team. After a tense battle that went deep into deuce, Japan stayed composed and took the set 29-27. Canada responded by fighting back, but Japan continued to rely on its trademark combination of technical precision, intelligent attacks, organized defense, and relentless ball control.

Mayu Ishikawa once again played a crucial role, including important attacks in the opening set, while Japan’s entire team demonstrated why they are considered one of the most technically gifted teams in international volleyball.

Even after Canada forced a fifth set by winning an incredible fourth set 30-28, Japan did not panic. Instead, they reset, stayed focused, and executed when it mattered most.

That is what makes Japan so special.

They don't need to overpower every opponent. They don't need to win every rally with a monster spike. They simply keep playing the right way — point after point, rally after rally, set after set.

And that is the essence of discipline.

The victory over Canada completed a perfect Week 1 for Japan, as they finished the opening week of the 2026 Women's VNL undefeated.
