Vietnam vs Korea | Highlights | AVC Women's Continental Championship 2026. South Korea opened its 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship campaign with an important 3–1 victory over Vietnam in Pool C of the preliminary phase. The match was played on August 22, 2026, at the Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium in Tianjin, China, with Korea winning by set scores of 25–20, 22–25, 25–21 and 25–17.

This was much more than an ordinary opening match. With Japan considered the favorite in Pool C, the meeting between Vietnam and Korea was expected to play a major role in deciding second place and determining the quarterfinal bracket. Vietnam had moved ahead of Korea in the Asian volleyball hierarchy during the previous few seasons, but Korea arrived in Tianjin with renewed confidence under head coach Cha Sang-hyun.

Korea started strongly and gradually established control of the opening set. Yuk Seo-young contributed with powerful attacks and intelligent tip shots, while captain Kang So-hwi made an impact through attacking, blocking and serving. Vietnam responded through captain Trần Thị Thanh Thúy, but Korea’s stronger presence at the net helped the team secure the first set 25–20.

Vietnam produced its best response in the second set. Korea initially moved ahead 5–1 after strong serving from Kang So-hwi, effective attacks from Na Hyun-soo and a block by Lee Da-hyeon on young Vietnamese attacker Phạm Quỳnh Hương. However, Vietnam stabilized its reception and began using faster and more varied attacks. After tying the score at 20–20, Vietnam increased its serving pressure on Yuk Seo-young and completed the comeback by winning the set 25–22.

The third set became the most important and competitive part of the match. The teams remained close until Korea’s substitutions changed the momentum. Park Eun-seo entered from the bench and delivered a service ace to level the score at 14–14. Lee Ye-rim then replaced Yuk Seo-young and produced a crucial block against Thanh Thúy during a transition attack. Korea’s blocking system became increasingly effective, while Vietnam began committing more errors under pressure. Korea eventually secured the set 25–21 and moved within one set of victory.

Korea controlled the fourth set with better reception, aggressive serving and a dominant presence at the net. Lee Ye-rim provided stability in serve reception, while Kim Hyo-im’s serving run allowed Korea to create an important advantage. Park Eun-jin added decisive blocks, and setter Kim Da-in also contributed offensively. Korea extended its lead to 22–15 before Park Eun-seo scored the final point, completing the 25–17 fourth-set victory and the 3–1 match win.

Kang So-hwi delivered the standout individual performance and finished as the match’s leading scorer with 20 points, including two blocks and three service aces. Her performance was particularly significant because she had recently been rested due to a calf injury. Na Hyun-soo contributed 14 points, while middle blocker Lee Da-hyeon added 13. Yuk Seo-young scored nine points and Lee Ye-rim contributed eight, giving Korea a balanced offensive performance. Park Eun-seo also made a major impact from the bench and recorded three service aces.

Trần Thị Thanh Thúy was Vietnam’s leading scorer with 18 points, all coming through attacks. She remained Vietnam’s main offensive leader and was responsible for many of the team’s most important points, but Korea’s organized blocking and defensive pressure gradually reduced her influence as the match progressed.

The 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship features 12 national teams, with the top two teams from each preliminary pool and the two best third-placed teams advancing to the quarterfinals. The competition carries enormous importance because the champion earns direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, while the top three teams qualify for the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship.
