In today’s video, Thys and Alex sit down together to review the New Balance SC Elite v6, the latest carbon plated racer from New Balance featuring the new Infinion midsole compound and a completely revamped upper.
The upper is a genuine step forward from the previous version, breathable, well padded where it needs to be, and visually one of the standout shoes on the market right now. That said, it runs narrow, and runners with wider feet or a less secure heel may find the fit does not quite work for them. The midsole tells a more complicated story. The Infinion foam is snappy and lively, and the forefoot delivers an aggressive, responsive ride that both Thys and Alex enjoyed on the track. The heel, however, is a different matter. The plate sits aggressively low and close to the heel, making heel striking a harsh and uncomfortable experience despite the 40mm of stack on paper.
The verdict from both is consistent: this is a shoe built for shorter, faster efforts by stronger, more aggressive runners. Intervals, road miles, and up to 5K or 10K on race day. Marathon distance is off the table. If you are a lighter forefoot striker with fresh legs and some stability needs, this could work well for you. If you are not that profile, there are better options at this price point.
If you want an honest, two-perspective take on one of New Balance’s most aggressive racing shoes yet, this video is for you.
