Brett Callahan tripled to right in the second inning, scoring two, before Clark singled home Callahan, and Colt Keith homered in the third to give Detroit an early 4-1 lead.

Tristan Peters scored on a Sam Antonacci groundout in the third to make it 4–1, before Drew Romo homered to right in the fifth, scoring Peters, to cut the deficit to one.

Colson Montgomery singled home Randal Grichuk in the sixth to tie it at 4-4, Munetaka Murakami launched a go-ahead homer to left center in the seventh, scoring Antonacci, to put Chicago ahead 6-4.

Dillon Dingler doubled in the seventh to score Gleyber Torres and cut it to 6-5, before Miguel Vargas homered to left in the ninth to seal the win.

Sean Burke started and struck out two over 4.1 innings. Hagen Smith struck out one over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the win. Huascar Brazobán held in the seventh before Seab Newcomb struck out two over 2.1 scoreless innings to close it out and earn the save
