The Isabelle Stadden transformation at the University of Virginia rolled on Thursday evening in Irvine, where she posted yet another best time in a backstroke race.
Her 27.09 ties her as the 6th-fastest performer in history and comes as her second US National title this week.
This continues a torrential run since joining the Cavaliers in December 2025 after completing her degree at Cal. This is now her 4th best time in the 50 back in just over 7 months (previous PB: 27.14 from Pro Swim in Indy). That joins with 2 best times in the 100 back, which she will swim later this week, and 2 best times in the 200 back, though she didn't quite hit one in that race earlier this week.
The backstrokes are always brutal fields to emerge from for American women, but Stadden's trajectory makes her hard to count out for LA28.
