Rams vs Cardinals Preview: The 5-Game Stretch That Saves the Season

Erin Coscarelli and Rob Havenstein wrap up the Rams’ 37-34 overtime loss to the Bills, with Rob breaking down the blocked game-winning field goal: a low, driven kick plus a gap in the protection that let Greg Rousseau get home on an overloaded side. They react to the Rams cutting Harrison Mevis for Blake Grupe and run through the long list of kickers in the McVay era, and Rob defends McVay’s overtime third-and-5 run call as a no-win decision. With Alaric Jackson out for the next two games, Rob explains why veteran David Quessenberry is a safe fill-in at left tackle and how McVay can manufacture help for him. He also notes the Cardinals have bigger problems after losing Paris Johnson Jr. for the season. Previewing Sunday’s game, with the Rams as 12.5-point favorites, the hosts read the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade as a possible Arizona fire sale, and Rob says the 2-3 Rams have no more games to give away in the five before the bye.
