Dohnte Meyers’ journey to the Cincinnati Bengals’ 53-man roster produced an emotional moment he and his family will never forget.
“Honestly, the best part of it all was just calling my parents right after I got off the phone,” Meyers said. “Immediately after, I did a group FaceTime with my parents and my siblings and told them the news. The waterworks started happening, and everybody started crying. It was a good, emotional moment.”
“It’s been a beautiful blessing that I’ve been able to experience. It’s something I dreamed about, but to be able to live it, to be grateful every day and just embrace every moment, that’s something I’m appreciative of and grateful for.”
Meyers said he made a conscious effort to appreciate every part of his opportunity with the Bengals.
“I was present for every day, every practice, every meeting, every interview, every fan interaction. I was present, and I’m just glad I didn’t cheat myself. I didn’t cheat myself out of the grind. I just embraced every moment. It’s beautiful.”
Meyers also thanked Cincinnati for welcoming him with open arms.
“The fan base is why we have the team. That’s what we do it for. We have a pride here in Cincinnati. They welcomed me with open arms.”
“I want to be a source of inspiration for the kids in the stands, for the hardworking people who have stories and haven’t given up on their dreams. They can look to me, and I feel like we feed off them too.”
And as it turns out, Meyers may have landed with the perfect team.
“Nobody knows orange is my favorite color, so when I found out the news, I was ecstatic. I’m looking forward to playing out there, playing with those guys, just going to compete and go to war. That’s something I love and enjoy.”
“Now we get to do it on Sunday in front of the bright lights and in front of the great fan base.” 🧡
