What separates having potential from actually being able to perform when it matters?
In this episode of The Cerebral Cricketer, I’m joined by Amrinder K. Gill from Vagus Active Therapy, a qualified physiotherapist working with cricketers on stress regulation, mental resilience and performance.
Amrinder shares her own journey of being a high achiever who struggled to execute despite knowing her potential, and how that experience eventually led her to explore the connection between the mind, body and nervous system.
We discuss performing under pressure, flow state, mindfulness, nervous system regulation, the role of breathing, developing an internal locus of control, sitting with discomfort, and why mental resilience can be physically trained.
We also explore why cricket places such unique demands on the mind, and what players can do to remain present, focused and composed when the pressure rises.
🎙️ **Topics include:**
• Potential vs performance
• The nervous system and stress regulation
• Flow state in cricket
• Mindfulness and meditation
• Performing under pressure
• Breathing and the vagus nerve
• Mental resilience
• Sitting with discomfort
• Building focus and presence
• The mental demands of cricket
