Former NHLer Sean Avery joins Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill for an absolutely unfiltered conversation about the Toronto Maple Leafs, Auston Matthews, Gavin McKenna, Sergei Bobrovsky, Mats Sundin, William Nylander and much more.

Avery kicks things off by promoting his brand-new show under The Nation Network’s HockeyFights banner, The Sean Avery Show, launching September 23rd.

Avery takes aim at Auston Matthews’ season opening interview, calling it a “fluff piece,” before breaking down what he wants to see from the Leafs captain this season. Avery believes Matthews is an elite player, but says “it’s time for him to take the next step.”

He also weighs in on Gavin McKenna’s arrival in Toronto and whether the highly touted prospect can be considered a generational player. Avery believes there’s a lot being placed on McKenna’s shoulders, and discusses who he thinks the youngster should start alongside. Ultimately, Avery believes McKenna has to dictate where he belongs during training camp.
