The Volleyball Nations League 2026 delivered one of the most unforgettable matches ever played as Poland came back from losing the longest set in VNL history to defeat Argentina 3-1 in front of an incredible home crowd in Gliwice. Although the final score reads 3-1 for Poland, the match will forever be remembered for its astonishing opening set that rewrote the history books.

A total of 98 points were scored before Argentina finally converted one of its many set points after an exhausting battle that seemed like it would never end.

Throughout the opening set, both teams repeatedly exchanged the lead, saving countless set points with incredible attacks, clutch serves, spectacular digs, and outstanding defensive plays. Neither side was able to establish the required two-point advantage for an incredibly long period, turning every rally into a match-defining moment. As the score climbed past 30, then 40, and eventually reached 50 points, the atmosphere inside the arena became absolutely electric, with every rally receiving thunderous applause from the Polish crowd.

Despite suffering such a heartbreaking defeat in the opening set, Poland showed remarkable mental strength. Instead of allowing the historic loss to affect them, the home team responded immediately in the second set. Poland edged Argentina 26-24 in another closely contested battle, leveling the match at one set apiece and completely changing the momentum.

With confidence restored, Poland took control of the match during the third and fourth sets. Their serving pressure increased, the blocking became more effective, and the offense found another level as Argentina gradually began to feel the physical and emotional effects of the marathon first set. Poland comfortably claimed the final two sets 25-19 and 25-20 to complete one of the most impressive comebacks of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League.
