Ben Maller of The Ben Maller Show reacts to the Cleveland Browns naming Deshaun Watson their starting quarterback for the 2026 season.
Ben believes Cleveland needs to stop letting the Watson contract dictate its future. His solution? Cut bait, accept the salary-cap pain, spend a few years in cap purgatory if necessary, and finally move on.
Watson is playing under the five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract he signed with Cleveland in 2022. If the Browns move on, current cap projections indicate they could be dealing with roughly $86 million in dead money in 2027.
Ben points to teams like the Rams and Broncos as examples of franchises willing to absorb painful financial consequences and move forward rather than remain stuck with a bad situation.
Should Cleveland bite the bullet and start over?
