Lonzo Ball to the Miami Heat? 👀🔥

A LOT of Miami Heat fans have been asking me about Lonzo Ball, especially with Miami still having an open roster spot heading into the 2026-27 season. So today, we’re finally talking about it!

Lonzo is an incredibly talented player who was once viewed as one of the NBA’s most promising young point guards. At his best, Ball brings playmaking, transition offense, rebounding, defense and unselfish basketball — exactly the type of skill set you could see working alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

BUT… there is a major problem.

Since suffering his serious knee injury during the 2021-22 season, Lonzo simply hasn’t been the same player.

After missing the entire 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons because of his knee problems, Ball returned in 2024-25 and appeared in just 35 games, averaging 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 36.6% from the field and 34.4% from three.

Then in 2025-26, Ball played 35 games for Cleveland and averaged just:

🏀 4.0 RPG
🏀 3.9 APG
🏀 1.3 SPG
🏀 30.1% FG
🏀 27.2% 3PT

He was traded to Utah in February 2026 and subsequently waived, making him available to NBA teams. (Basketball Reference)

And this is where things get REALLY interesting for the Miami Heat.

Ira Winderman was recently asked specifically about Lonzo Ball potentially joining Miami. His response was that while the Heat do have an open roster spot, their preferred path for an upgrade would likely be “ready-to-go talent” rather than taking a chance on a player who may or may not still have his previous ability. (Yahoo Sports)

And honestly… I agree.

I LOVE Lonzo Ball’s game when he’s healthy. I love the passing. I love his basketball IQ. I love his defense. I love the idea of a pass-first point guard playing next to Giannis.

But should Miami use its final roster spot on him?

That’s where I’m not convinced.

The Heat are trying to compete NOW. Giannis is here. Bam is here. Klay Thompson is here. Bobby Portis is here. Miami needs players who can step onto the court and immediately contribute.
