Bit of a bold prediction on my part
But my reasoning is this:
- Coaches have seen the level of skill development accelerate over the past decade... leading to a wave of talent that is unprecedented in previous generations
- Yet despite the skill. Many coaches are still reporting or saying that kids are lacking the Hockey IQ (because they don't watch enough hockey anymore) along with the 'toughness' or 'compete factor' that other generations possessed
Mental training is about bridging that gap again. Upgrading a players decision making ability in games (which has been regarded as something you can't coach... We don't believe that). Along with being able to teach players how to have both confidence in their game survive periods of slumps, ruts and stretches of bad games. Along with increasing the compete factor in being physically aggressive on the ice, to pressure the puck and to feel comfortable with risk.
That's the motivation behind why I make this claim
Because players are making use of coaches, sports psychologists and other services to get those traits in their game
Nathan MacKinnon did this in his breakout season... He said so himself regarding getting a sports psychologist
