Swim Like a Pro: Freestyle Breathing Drills For Beginner Swimmers | Part 3 of Learn To Swim Series
Welcome to Part 3 of our Learn to Swim series! In this swimming video, we're focusing specifically on freestyle breathing drills to help you improve your stroke and breathing coordination. This swimming video is essential for beginner swimmers who want to swim like a pro. Freestyle is one of the most popular and efficient strokes, and mastering proper breathing is key to becoming a confident swimmer.
This learn to swim video introduces several effective swimming drills that will help you develop the necessary skills for a smooth and relaxed freestyle stroke. We always follow a skill building approach when teaching and learning swimming.
In part 3 of our Learn To Swim Series we will focus on:
Bubble and Breathe on the Ledge – Start with this simple drill to get comfortable exhaling and inhaling while keeping your face in the water.
Bubble and Breathe with the Kickboard – This drill helps you build the rhythm of breathing while focusing on your kicks for proper coordination.
Staggered Arm Bubble and Breathe – Focuses on timing your breath and arm strokes, which is essential for maintaining a steady, relaxed freestyle stroke.
High Elbow Drill – Teaches the timing of the breathing and improves your arm technique by ensuring your elbow stays relaxed during the recovery phase, while learning to pull and accelerate creating a more efficient freestyle technique.
Laurie’s Drill – A fantastic drill for combining breathing with stroke technique, ensuring you’re developing proper freestyle form as you practice. Laurie's drill encourages a streamline body position, a six beat kick and solidifies the timing of the breathing for freestyle.
6 Kicks Change Roll on Your Back – This drill helps you being efficient with your propulsive skills and swim long distances by rolling on to your back building endurance for freestyle.
In this swimming video you will also see that we are introducing a silicone swimming cap, goggles and flippers, perfect for enhancing comfort, speed, and efficiency during your practice.
Learning to swim is all about building skills gradually, and with consistent practice, you’ll begin to feel more confident with each session. Freestyle breathing can be tricky at first, but with a building block approach, you’ll slowly master each aspect of it. Remember, regular exposure and practice are key to improving your technique and achieving lasting success in the water.
Safety first!!!!! Always swim in an area where a lifeguard is on duty, especially when practicing new techniques. Safety is the number one priority for all swimmers.
We hope our swimming videos show you that anyone can learn to swim swim. Follow along with these drills and start improving your swimming today!
