The Cincinnati Reds secured a 5-3 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Great American Ball Park. The win improved Cincinnati’s record to 35-37 and gave them a 2-0 series lead after Monday’s 12-0 blowout.

Brady Singer earned the win (3-6), tossing five innings of three-hit ball with one earned run, five strikeouts, and three walks on 91 pitches. Kodai Senga, in his return from injury, took the loss (0-5), allowing four earned runs on two hits with four walks and five strikeouts in four innings. The Mets mounted a late push in the sixth. Marcus Semien singled, and Mark Vientos crushed a two-run homer to left (421 feet), cutting the deficit to 5-3. However, Cincinnati’s bullpen held firm. Relievers limited further damage, and Santillan struck out two in the ninth to seal the win.

This victory highlighted several encouraging trends for the Reds. Their young lineup continues to show explosive potential, with Stewart and Steer delivering back-to-back home runs in the first inning. Stewart’s multi-hit night, including the homer and RBI single, underscored his emergence as a key middle-of-the-order bat. The early offensive outburst relieved pressure on Singer, who navigated traffic effectively despite issuing three walks.

Singer’s performance was workmanlike. He induced weak contact and struck out five while limiting hard contact. His ability to pitch out of jams in the middle innings proved crucial. Meanwhile, Senga’s command issues plagued him from the start. The right-hander struggled with his fastball location and issued four free passes, a recurring problem in his limited starts this season.

The bullpen once again played a starring role. After Singer exited, Cincinnati’s relief corps combined for four scoreless innings. Santillan’s ninth-inning dominance, punching out two batters with the bases empty after a brief threat, provided a clean finish.

For the Mets, the loss dropped them further in the standings. Despite Vientos’ power and Bichette’s timely hitting, New York could not overcome the early deficit or capitalize on scoring opportunities. Their bullpen kept them in striking distance, but the offense left too many runners on base.

This series win at home gives the Reds valuable momentum heading into the latter part of June. With improved starting pitching depth and a lineup showing consistent pop, Cincinnati is positioning itself as a pesky contender in the NL Central. Fans left Great American Ball Park optimistic, hoping this brand of timely hitting and solid relief pitching can carry the team through the summer months.
