Cincinnati Reds Outlook
The Reds enter the matchup with a 28-25 overall record and are sending right-hander Chase Burns to the mound. Burns has been utterly dominant in his second major league season, boasting a 6-1 record and an impressive ERA. The young fireballer ranks among the best in the majors in WHIP, and his sweeping slider has baffled batters. At the plate, superstar shortstop Elly De La Cruz continues to drive the offense alongside Rookie of the Year contender Sal Stewart. They anchor a lineup that ranks as one of the most productive and hardest-hitting in the National League.
New York Mets Outlook
It has been a difficult stretch for the Mets, who sit at 22-32 and are trying to halt a four-game losing skid. Their offense has been notably anemic, managing a total of just four runs over their last four games. Things will not get any easier facing Burns, but the return of designated hitter Juan Soto—who missed the previous matchup with an illness—provides a massive boost to a battered lineup that has heavily missed injured veterans like Francisco Lindor and Francisco Alvarez.
Taking the ball for the Mets is left-hander David Peterson, who brings a 3-4 record and a ERA into the contest. Peterson will need to keep the heavy-hitting Cincinnati batters off-balance and rely on the spacious dimensions of Citi Field to avoid the long ball. The Mets will also welcome A.J. Minter and Jared Young back from the injured list, giving manager Carlos Mendoza some extra depth as they attempt to salvage the middle game of this three-game series.
Game Prediction & Betting Context
The Reds are slight favorites on the moneyline, with the over/under sitting at runs. With Burns on the mound and the Mets' recent struggles to generate offense, runs could be at a premium early on. First pitch from Queens is slated for 7:10 p.m. EDT, with local broadcast coverage available on SNY and regional Reds television networks.
