Fabian Cancellara (Saxobank) and Tom Boonen (Quickstep) entered the Ronde van Vlaanderen 2010 as big race favourites, despite Devolder (back to back winner) being on Quickstep. Saxobank appeared to have the stronger all round team, with O'Grady and Breschel making things difficult for everybody in the last third of the race on the Oude Kwaremont, Paterberg and Koppenberg climbs. With 44km to go, and Breschel behind after a mechanical, Cancellara attacked on the Molenberg, gapping everyone except for Tom Boonen who managed to just catch his wheel on the crest of the climb. With these two big hitters clear and the other teams weakened, there was not much chance they would be brought back, with the ball moving into Cancellara's court as to whether he would try and drop the better sprinter Boonen before the finale. What followed is one of the most famous attacks in Tour of Flanders history, with Cancellara launching on the Muur in the saddle immediately gapping Boonen. Such was the gap that, to this very day, many people have claimed that Cancellara had hidden a motor in his bike - which I do not think is the case.
