Pan Pacs are 10 days away, but Gretchen Walsh wasted no time getting things started in Irvine. After time-trialing the 100 Free on Friday and clocking a PB 52.75, Walsh won the national title in the 50 Free on Saturday. The world record holder in the event touched in 23.60, the #3 performance of all-time next to herself (23.55) and her teammate Kate Douglass (23.59).
After the race, Walsh said she was very excited to be in Irvine and racing in front of a crowd outdoors. The UVA grad emphasized this is the kind of environment she thrives in and is ready for more to come at Pan Pacs.
