In this episode of Thompson 2 Clark — the San Francisco Giants podcast on BSPN — Brad Evans and Garrett Gonzales break down the flurry of moves the Giants made Monday to get their 40-man roster down in size, including the release of reliever Tristan Beck, who pitched for San Francisco in each of the last four seasons. Beck was placed on unconditional release waivers, while José Buttó was claimed off waivers by the Rangers, Duncan Davitt by the Reds, Brett Harris and Shay Whitcomb by the Phillies and Zach Morgan by the Orioles. Joel Kuhnel and Seth Lonsway cleared waivers and were outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento. Brad and Garrett react to who the Giants lost, who they kept, and what it says about how Buster Posey is reshaping the roster.
They also give their thoughts on the World Series, where the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays in five games to win the first championship in franchise history, with catcher William Contreras named World Series MVP.
They also react to Giants legends Bruce Bochy, Dusty Baker and Brian Sabean landing on the Hall of Fame's Contemporary Era ballot. The eight-man ballot will be voted on Dec. 6 at the Winter Meetings in San Diego, and anyone who gets at least 75% of the committee's votes will be inducted into the Class of 2027.
Then it's on to the start of free agency, which opened Monday with Tarik Skubal at the top of the market, and what the Giants might do with the lockout looming when the labor deal expires Dec. 1.
Plus, Brad is back from his vacation in New Orleans and shares how it went.
