Nick Lodolo took another step toward returning to the Reds on Wednesday, making a rehab start for Triple-A Louisville.
The left-hander pitched 4.1 innings against St. Paul, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking two. He also threw a wild pitch and finished with exactly 65 pitches (37 strikes), matching his target workload of 60-65 pitches.
Reds manager Terry Francona liked what he saw from Lodolo early in the outing.
“We were just watching. [He was throwing] 94-95. He looked OK.”
Lodolo has been on the injured list since July 12 with a blister on his left index finger. He recently adjusted the grip on his curveball to help address the recurring issue and successfully tested the new grip during live batting practice last week.
If Lodolo comes out of Wednesday’s start feeling good, he could be in line to rejoin the Reds’ rotation soon.
