McLaren CEO Zak Brown has escalated his crusade against alliances between F1 teams with a new direct request to FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem to intervene and take action - just as Mercedes is seriously considering taking a share in one of its customers.
We've seen a copy of the six-page letter Brown has sent to the president, and while most of the examples Brown cites refer to his old foe Red Bull - and how it operates with its second team Racing Bulls - it's surely no coincidence that he's sent it just as Mercedes is in the hunt for an ownership stake in Alpine.
