The United States opened Week 3 of the 2026 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League with a convincing straight-set victory over China, defeating the Asian side 3–0 (25–19, 25–13, 25–20) at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates (Chicago), Illinois. Playing in front of a home crowd, the Americans delivered a dominant performance to collect the maximum three points and begin the final week of the preliminary round in impressive fashion.

The USA entered the match as the favorite and quickly established control with aggressive serving, disciplined blocking, and efficient attacking. From the opening rallies, the Americans pressured China's reception, making it difficult for the Chinese offense to run quick combinations and allowing the U.S. blockers to anticipate attacks.

The first set was competitive early on, with China keeping pace for much of the frame. However, the United States pulled away in the closing stages thanks to strong side-out volleyball, effective transition play, and several well-timed blocks to secure the set 25–19.

The second set was completely dominated by the Americans. USA's serving created long scoring runs, while the team's blocking and defensive organization limited China to just 13 points. Balanced offensive distribution from the setter allowed the American attackers to score consistently from every position on the court, resulting in a comfortable 25–13 victory.

China showed greater determination in the third set and managed to keep the score much closer. Improved attacking rhythm and fewer unforced errors allowed the visitors to challenge the Americans for longer stretches. Nevertheless, every time China threatened to close the gap, the United States responded with powerful serves, solid blocking, and efficient finishing to close out the match with a 25–20 win.

One of the biggest differences in the match was the serve-and-pass battle. The United States consistently disrupted China's reception, forcing the Chinese setter into predictable offensive situations. This enabled the American blockers to read the play effectively while the defense converted numerous transition opportunities into points. Offensively, the USA mixed quick middle attacks with powerful swings from both outside hitters and opposites, making it difficult for China to establish any defensive rhythm.

China had positive moments throughout the match, particularly in the third set, where stable reception allowed the team to involve its middle attackers more frequently. However, inconsistent passing, limited attacking efficiency against the American block, and several costly serving and reception errors prevented China from seriously challenging one of the world's strongest teams.

The victory was an important result for the United States, earning three valuable points in the VNL standings and providing excellent momentum ahead of more demanding matches later in Week 3 against elite opponents including Brazil, France, Poland, and Bulgaria. For China, the match served as another valuable learning experience against top-level international competition while highlighting areas that need improvement for the remainder of the tournament.
