The 2017 European Championships road race was held in Herning in Denmark in wet and windy conditions on a flat course. The strongest teams were the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Denmark with big names such as Vos, Van der Breggen, Longo Borghini and Bronzini competing. A break eventually formed with just under 30km to go including Longo Borghini, Bronzini and Vos as well as the strong time triallist Zabelinskaya (then riding for Russia, now Uzbekistan). Italy seemed comfortable with a final sprint between Vos and Bronzini, using Longo Borghini as a pacemaker rather than attacking Vos at any point prior to the finale. The result was Vos dusting off Bronzini and claiming yet another major title.
