The Miami Heat may not be done making moves even after a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade.
In today’s episode of Miami Heat Talk, I break down one of the most overlooked assets Miami could have at its disposal: a projected $16.8 million trade exception. While much of the conversation surrounding a Giannis trade focuses on what the Heat would have to give up, there hasn’t been enough discussion about what Miami could still add afterward.
I explain exactly how trade exceptions work, why this particular exception could become a valuable tool for Pat Riley and the Heat front office, and how Miami could use it to continue strengthening the roster without sacrificing additional key players.
One name that stands out to me is Cason Wallace of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Wallace emerged as one of the NBA’s most promising young guards this season, showcasing elite perimeter defense, high basketball IQ, efficient shooting, and the type of toughness that fits perfectly within Heat Culture. During the playoffs, Wallace elevated his game even further, knocking down nearly 48% of his three-point attempts while continuing to make winning plays on both ends of the floor.
The Thunder have one of the deepest young rosters in the league and an enormous number of future draft picks. However, with several young players eventually becoming extension eligible, Oklahoma City could face difficult financial decisions in the coming years. Could Miami position itself to take advantage if Wallace becomes available?
In this episode, I discuss:
🔥 How the $16.8 million trade exception works
🔥 Why the trade exception could be critical after a Giannis trade
🔥 Potential players Miami could target using the exception
🔥 Why Cason Wallace may be the perfect fit next to Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro
🔥 Whether Oklahoma City could eventually be forced to make tough roster decisions
🔥 How Pat Riley could continue building a championship-caliber roster after landing a superstar
If the Miami Heat successfully acquire Giannis, the job won’t be finished. Championship teams are built through smart roster construction, and Cason Wallace could be the exact type of young two-way player that helps elevate Miami from contender to favorite.
Do you think Cason Wallace would be a perfect fit in Miami?
Would you use a future draft pick and the trade exception to make a move for him?
