Nick Lodolo gets the ball for Cincinnati in what will be his final appearance of an uneven 2026 season. The left-hander enters 3-6 with a 5.04 ERA and 80 strikeouts over 103 2/3 innings. Lodolo is coming off a seven-inning appearance against the Cubs in which he allowed three earned runs on six hits. With Chase Burns officially shut down because of a groin injury, Cincinnati would love to see Lodolo finish the year with a strong outing and provide some momentum heading into the offseason.
Toronto counters with right-hander José Soriano, who has been the more consistent starter this season. Soriano enters at 12-8 with a 3.72 ERA over 174 1/3 innings, giving the Reds' offense a difficult matchup to begin the weekend.
Offensively, the matchup features two teams that have struggled to consistently manufacture runs, but Cincinnati has displayed considerably more home-run power. The Reds have hit 211 homers, fourth-most in MLB, despite carrying a .228 team batting average that ranks last. Toronto has hit just 150 home runs and averages 4.0 runs per game. ESPN 1530
That makes Cincinnati's young core one of the biggest reasons to watch the final weekend. Elly De La Cruz, Sal Stewart, Carlos Jorge and Héctor Rodríguez represent important pieces of what the Reds hope will become a more productive offense in 2027. These final three games won't change Cincinnati's postseason fate, but they provide another opportunity for those players to finish the year on a positive note against major-league competition.
Toronto is also limping toward the finish line. The Blue Jays have been hit particularly hard by injuries, with Dylan Cease, José Berríos, Jameson Taillon and several others currently sidelined. Cease was recently placed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation after putting together an outstanding season.
For Cincinnati, the final weekend is less about the standings and more about evaluation. A strong finish from Lodolo and continued production from the Reds' young position players would provide at least a positive final impression as the organization begins turning its attention toward 2027.
