Olympic & world champ Cole Hocker opened his 2026 indoor season in style Friday at the Hokie Invitational in Virginia, running 4:52.92 for 2000m to break Bernard Lagat’s American indoor record of 4:54.74. It lasted less than 24 hours as the American record. Hocker’s performance set the tone and was a big statement before his showdown at next weekend’s Millrose Games 2-mile against Grant Fisher.
