When William Flynn redesigned Shinnecock Hills in 1931, he created arguably the greatest championship golf course in America. His sublimely varied routing combined with ever-present wind and outstanding land allowed Flynn to create a punishing golf course, one where sound second shots and restraint are rewarded.
