Cincinnati fell to 2-1, suffering its first loss of the season in a game that was there for the taking deep into the fourth quarter.

Joe Burrow delivered his best statistical performance of the young season, completing 28 of 37 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns. Ja’Marr Chase caught nine passes for 98 yards and a touchdown, while Tee Higgins added six receptions for 90 yards and a spectacular touchdown grab that helped Cincinnati erase an early Pittsburgh advantage and enter halftime tied 17-17.

The Bengals repeatedly put themselves in position to take control after halftime, but mistakes proved costly. With Cincinnati leading 20-17, a running-into-the-punter penalty extended a Pittsburgh possession that eventually ended with Aaron Rodgers finding DK Metcalf for a six-yard touchdown. Cincinnati responded, however, with Burrow directing another touchdown drive to reclaim a 27-24 advantage.

Then came another major special-teams mistake. Ke’Shawn Williams muffed a fourth-quarter punt, giving Pittsburgh possession at the Cincinnati 14-yard line. The Bengals defense managed to limit the damage to a field goal, but instead of Burrow getting the football back with a three-point lead, the game was tied.

Pittsburgh eventually moved back in front behind a 33-yard Chris Boswell field goal with 2:15 remaining. The Steelers were powered throughout the afternoon by Aaron Rodgers, who threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns, and Jaylen Warren, who rushed for 127 yards on 17 carries.

That gave Burrow one final opportunity to either tie the game or engineer a game-winning drive.

Instead, Cincinnati’s afternoon ended with its most painful mistake of all.

With 44 seconds remaining, Steelers defensive lineman Derrick Harmon beat the Bengals protection and strip-sacked Burrow. Sebastian Joseph-Day recovered the loose football, allowing Pittsburgh to run out the clock and secure the 30-27 victory. Remarkably, it was Pittsburgh's first sack of the game. Pittsburgh Steelers

For Cincinnati, the loss will be remembered as a fumbled opportunity. The Bengals produced enough offense to win and repeatedly battled back, but penalties, special-teams errors and the final turnover proved too much to overcome in their first AFC North matchup of 2026.
