Brazil vs Japan | Quarter Final Highlights | Women's VNL 2026. The final round of the "Volleyball Nations League 2026" is being held in Macau, China, from Wednesday, July 22nd.

The Japanese women's volleyball team, ranked 6th in the FIVB world rankings (as of the start of the match), faced Brazil, ranked 2nd, in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, July 22nd, and lost in sets 1-3 (26-24, 22-25, 16-25, 20-25), resulting in their elimination in the quarterfinals.

The first set started with both teams playing good defense, resulting in a close 7-7 tie. Nanami Seki's serve led to consecutive points, giving Japan a 9-7 lead. Mayu Ishikawa scored from a defensive play to extend the lead to 15-12, but Brazil responded with a back attack, tying the score at 16-16. Brazil scored with a two-touch set to take the lead at 18-19, prompting Japan to call a timeout. The set remained close until 23-23, but Ishikawa scored to make it 24-23, and finally, Nichika Yamada made a block to secure a 26-24 victory for Japan in a close match.

In the second set, after an exchange of side-outs, Brazil scored a block to take a 7-9 lead. Japan responded with a point from the left by Yoshino Sato to make it 11-10. Then, with a block from Haruyo Shimamura, the score became 12-10, prompting Brazil to call a timeout. Brazil scored consecutive points to tie the score at 14-14, and then, with a barrage of blocks, they took the lead at 15-17. With tenacious defense, Yukiko Wada scored to tie the score again at 20-20, but Brazil won the rally to take the lead at 20-22. Finally, Ishikawa's attack went out, and Brazil won the set 22-25.

In the third set, Brazil scored consecutive points from the start, and Japan called a timeout at 0-4. Brazil then scored consecutive blocks, extending their lead to 2-8. Japan was thrown off balance by Brazil's serves and fell far behind at 5-14. Japan tried to regain momentum with consecutive points from Yamada's service ace and Shimamura's block, but Brazil's attack was sharp in the final stages, and they scored with a back attack, losing the set 16-25.

In the fourth set, Japan had their backs against the wall, but after a back-and-forth battle, Brazil broke through Japan's defense with their serves, taking an early lead at 8-10. In the middle of the set, Yamada's block tied the score at 12-12. Brazil scored with an attack from defense to take the lead again at 13-15, but Wada's consecutive service aces put Japan back in the lead at 17-15. Brazil scored with a back attack to tie the score at 18-18, and finally, a service ace by Brazil made it 20-25. Japan lost to Brazil with a set score of 1-3 and was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

"Even with some of their members missing, they are still a strong team, and I felt that we needed to play with even higher quality. Regarding today's result, I personally felt that it was more about our own precision being a little low than the opponent's. The opponent adapted in the first set, and I think we were doing the same thing, and there were some areas where our precision was lacking. (Looking back on the tournament) I think this season has been tougher than last season, but I want to switch gears and work hard so that this will lead to the Asian Championship. We didn't achieve our goals in this year's Nations League, but I want to accept this situation and grow from it."
