Most golfers are told that the clubface should be “square” at the top of the backswing.
But here’s the truth… it isn’t.
In every golf swing, the clubface naturally rotates open by around 90 degrees during the backswing. The position we often call “square” is actually open relative to the target, and understanding this is a huge step toward controlling your ball striking.
The real challenge in golf isn’t just getting the club to the top — it’s how the face closes again during the downswing.
