Floating is the foundation of all learn to swim skills. When children learn to relax and float in shallow water, they begin to feel safe, calm and confident in the pool.

Shallow water helps children relax because they know they can stand up if needed. That sense of security allows their bodies to soften, their breathing to slow, and their floating position to improve naturally.

Good floating skills create good swimmers. When children understand buoyancy and balance, every other skill — kicking, arm actions, breathing and independent swimming — becomes easier.

Always practise with close, active supervision. Stay within arm’s reach and work at your child’s pace. Keep learning fun, gentle and positive.
