Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, with the game nationally televised on CBS.

Unlike Cincinnati’s first preseason game, this one won’t be about Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins or the rest of the Bengals’ established starters. Head coach Zac Taylor has confirmed the starters will sit as Cincinnati turns its attention toward Week 1 of the regular season. Philadelphia is taking a similar approach, meaning Friday night will largely belong to players fighting for the final spots on each team’s 53-man roster.

For Cincinnati, one of the biggest areas to watch is offensive tackle. The Bengals released veteran Cody Ford earlier this week, opening the door for Jalen Rivers and Javon Foster to compete for the primary backup tackle job. Rivers spent his rookie season primarily at guard but has received increased work at tackle, while Foster is looking to turn his development on Cincinnati’s practice squad last season into a roster spot.

Wide receiver and the return game will also be worth watching. Dohnte Meyers has emerged as one of the biggest stories of Bengals training camp after playing in the CFL last season. Meyers is competing in a crowded receiver room while also trying to prove he can contribute as a returner. Charlie Jones and Ke’Shawn Williams are among the other players involved in that competition.

Defensively, seventh-round rookie Landon Robinson has made a strong impression as a pass rusher, but Cincinnati’s depth along the defensive line could make the numbers difficult. The Bengals also have decisions to make at linebacker and safety, where special teams value could ultimately determine who survives final cuts.

Quarterback Josh Johnson is expected to lead the Bengals offense, with Sean Clifford also in the mix for playing time as Cincinnati evaluates its depth behind Burrow.

The final score may ultimately be secondary Friday night. With the Bengals needing to trim their roster to 53 players by Sunday, this is the final opportunity for several players to prove they deserve to be part of Cincinnati’s plans when the games begin to count.
