In their seventh and final preseason friendly, the Werkself secured another victory. In the away match against Newcastle United, Ibrahim Maza scored early in the 2nd minute off an assist from Christian Kofane to give Leverkusen the lead. Shortly before halftime, the Magpies equalized, before Victor Boniface sealed the 2-1 victory in the 82nd minute with a spectacular dribble. Coach Carles Martínez’s team will now face SV Wehen Wiesbaden next Saturday in their first competitive match of the season, in the first round of the DFB Pokal.
