LAKERS NEED ANOTHER BIG! Walker Kessler Can’t Do It Alone!
The Los Angeles Lakers are looking like a legitimate championship contender, but there’s one roster question Rob Pelinka cannot afford to ignore: DOES WALKER KESSLER HAVE ENOUGH HELP?
Walker Kessler is giving the Lakers something they’ve desperately needed: rim protection, rebounding, interior defense, and a legitimate presence in the paint. But one center cannot carry an entire frontcourt through an 82-game season and four rounds of playoff basketball.
Following the Lakers’ 116–103 victory over the Sacramento Kings, we’re talking about what this roster needs to take the next step.
Kessler finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals against Sacramento. That’s the kind of defensive impact that can change a team’s ceiling.
But here’s the concern: Sacramento still grabbed 46 rebounds compared to the Lakers’ 38, with Domantas Sabonis pulling down 17.
That’s exactly why I believe the Lakers need to seriously evaluate their frontcourt depth.
In this episode of Lakers Land, Seven Mitchell and Justin Welch discuss:
🏀 Why Walker Kessler is so important to the Lakers’ championship hopes.
🏀 Why the Lakers need another dependable big man behind Kessler.
🏀 Whether Kevon Looney and Sandro Mamukelashvili provide enough frontcourt depth.
🏀 What type of center Rob Pelinka should target.
🏀 Whether the Lakers need another traditional rim protector or a versatile stretch big.
🏀 How important rebounding and interior defense will be against Denver, Oklahoma City, Houston and Minnesota.
🏀 Whether one more quality big could turn the Lakers into legitimate championship favorites.
I’m not interested in adding another name just to make a roster move. I want a big man JJ Redick can trust when the playoffs get physical.
The Lakers have Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and Walker Kessler. The foundation is exciting. But is the frontcourt deep enough to win it all?
